So I’m fairly sure my choice isn’t even going to be on most peoples radars. That is a fact I feel only backs up my feelings about this album. That album being Folie à Deux by Fall Out Boy. An album that when it came out I instantly hated.
It was completely different to cultural hits in both “From Under A Cork Tree & Infinity On High” the 2nd of which I consider a classic! The reason I did not originally connect with it was because the band had drifted from their emo based power , towards a more genre bending approach. Something which since then I feel they have done too much. Although I was happy when latest album “So Much (For) Stardust” seemed to connect more with the roots of the band.
I am really happy to admit though that Folie à Deux in fact has some of the bands best work on it! I just didn’t see it at the time. “I Don’t Care” is a defiant anthem and a middle finger to the world. While “What A Catch, Donnie” is a wonderfully delicate ballad that honestly I was thrilled to hear live last year at Download Festival. Sure the album does not hit the height of their earlier work but it did not deserve to be as widely dismissed as it was! I think it was the lack of immediate hits like “Thnks fr th Mmrs” and “Sugar, We’re Going Down”.
I would love to know what album you feel is underrated and why in the comments section!
