What Subgenre Of Rock/Metal Do You Love The Most?

I think my answer to this question likely changes on a weekly basis! However I think the ones I would naturally gravitate back to would be Emo and Metalcore.

My Chemical Romance – Welcome To The Black Parade (All Rights Are Retained By My Chemical Romance)

This is likely due to it being the first real deviation from what I listened to as a kid growing up , so it was something that was “Mine”. So I’m thinking bands like My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy. On the flip side bands like Killswitch Engage, Trivium & Bullet For My Valentine.

Killswitch Engage – The End Of Heartache (All Rights Are Retained By Killswitch Engage)

With the Emo it was more about the honest song writing to how the person was truly feeling no matter how raw it could get which I honestly found really refreshing! With Metalcore I think it was the blend of harsh vocals that really fired you up vs the softer more melodic vocals which really are beautiful most of the time.

I’d love to know what subgenre is your favourite, let us know in the comments section!

I am not qualified enough to say of this is actually a “sub genre” of metal, but I loved Dead Kennedys when I was coming up – the rage, the critique of power, the mosh pit energy …
And then there’s Violent Femmes – Songs like “Blister in the Sun” or “Add It Up” are angsty, rebellious, and unhinged … but they’re more like folk music on a bad acid trip than anything remotely “metallic”? 🤷‍♀️

So I imagine DK would be punk , and VF are punk folk so I guess you really like punk 🙂

Liked … now, I’m super dreamy vibes … or drumbeats that sound like an ancient “call to war”.

“Hard Goth Rock” (if that’s even an official sub-genre) like The Cult and Sisters of Mercy.

These days, I listen to Alternative Rock mostly. Still enjoy mellow 70s stuff, and rock with philharmonic backgrounds (Beatles, Who, Moody Blues, Zeppelin, Supertramp).

I’m afraid I haven’t a clue. I just like what I like, and rarely try to divide my music into genres and sub-genres. 😎

      More than fair enough 🙂

Maybe you could give me like 4 bands you like and I could see if there is a pattern ? 🙂 Might mean you find new bands to enjoy off the back of it.

They’re mainly older bands with me, like Jethro Tull, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Deep Purple, Wishbone Ash, Yes, Pink Floyd – I think the pattern/genre would be ‘Old Seventies Rocker’. I do like some more modern stuff, but it’s more single artists like Amy Winehouse. 🙂

Definitely, I love classic rock, progressve rock, R&B, pop, and heavy metal. Prog and metal have been my main interests for many years. The sound of the 3 sub-genres that I listed really speak to me.

I think people dont “get them”

But with the genres you like I think perhaps if you give them time and let it seep into you , then you might like it 🙂

I am opened minded and I like to form my own opinions, so the negatively does not sway me.

Grunge/Alt & Classic probably get the most rotation on my preexisting playlists and what I’m most likely to gravitate to in a blind hearing
