What Rock/Metal Event Would You Time Travel To Be At?

13th July 1985. Many people will know what event that is from the date alone. For those that don’t it was Live Aid.

Elton John – Rocket Man (All Rights Are Retained By Elton John)

The reasoning really is the sheer number of rock bands that were at the event that I can no longer go and see. As well as legendary performances that I have only ever seen on youtube.

David Bowie – Heroes (All Rights Are Retained By David Bowie)

Honestly I just need to write these names, Dire Straits, Queen, David Bowie. All bands/acts that there is no longer any chance of me seeing or at least not in their best line up. And they really are acts I adore!

Dire Straits – Money For Nothing (All Rights Are Retained By Dire Straits)

Having been born 8 years later than the concert it isnt like I just didnt bother the first time around I really do need that time machine! I just want to be there for the legendary Queen set…

Queen – We Will Rock You (All Rights Are Retained By Queen)

I’d love to know though , if you could time travel to an event what would it be. Let me know in the comments!

I agree with you–that would be sensational. My second choice would be Glastonbury 2000 when Bowie headlined. I have the DVD of his performance, but would have loved to have seen Moby, NIN, Chemical Bros., Counting Crows, Pet Shop Boys, and more.

Great posts as always. This is definitely an interesting question. If I had the opportunities to travel back in time, I would love to see Live Aid. I’m a huge fan of Queen which performed one of their most iconic concerts at Live Aid. It was beautifully shown in the movie Bohemian Rhapsody. Would have loved to have been there to witness it. It’s definitely one of the most exciting concerts that I have seen footage from. Love Freddie Mercury and would have been thrilled to have seen him performing live.

Live Aid definitely came to mind first. I also thought of Woodstock, just for the historical significance, as well as the personal connection that I was born on the 7th anniversary of Woodstock, but I think Live Aid would have more music that I know since it combined both the classics and current stuff, and I was alive and listening to music at that time. (I was 8, almost 9, when Live Aid happened, but a heavy MTV watcher back when they were still about music.)

I dont remember a time when MTV was actually based on music!

Wow… that’s sad… I was born in 1976, MTV started in 1981, and we got cable in 1984 when I was in second grade. For the first several years of MTV’s existence, until the late 80s, it was pretty much all music videos all day, and the shows themselves were music, like the top 20 countdown or shows that were dedicated to a specific genre for an hour but still music. I think the only thing that wasn’t music videos was a music news show.

Going to a famous festival would be cool. But I’d like to go back to an iconic NYC punk venue like CBGB or Max’s Kansas City and attend a big show in the heyday.

LiveAid is a great one and I’d add to that Woodstock b/c Jimi, Janis, CCR and Joan B!
