Set It Off is a band that we were sad to have missed at When We Were Young festival in 2023 and Slam Dunk 24, we saw that they were playing in Leeds and we decided to finally go see them! It took a good hour to get there and we managed to get the last free space on street parking near the venue.
The Project House was formerly a tile warehouse in an industrial estate with a capacity of 1000. Although they kept a lot of the rustic warehouse design it was very well planned out for a music venue with surprisingly good acoustics, they even had a restaurant on the other side of the building run by the same people!
We had a quick look at merchandise, and although there were plenty of really cool designs from all the bands, the queue was very long so we decided to not get any, and get ourselves in the best spot we could, despite the venue being incredibly full before any of the bands had started!
Usually we give all the bands a listen before we go to gigs, however this time we were quite busy and we didn’t have a clue what to expect, sometimes a surprise is nice!

The first band of the night was a band called TSS (formally known as The Summer Sadness) They are a French band with an emo/metal core sound and a distinctive look, they performed in both French and English and we really enjoyed the contrast of languages in their songs!
We thought they were a fantastic opening band, and even had their logo in lights set up behind them which was a nice surprise as usually first bands in smaller venues don’t tend to have a sign.
Our stand out songs of the set was ‘Would you be my therapy?’ and ‘KILLING ME’ we really enjoyed these songs in particular due to the nostalgic but modern sound, although it was a hard pick and we have definitely listened to them a lot more since this gig!
After their set they were at the merch stand, St. Jimmy went and spoke to them and had a really good chat with them, they were really nice and down to earth, we really hope they go far!
The second band of the night was supposed to be Call Me Amour however Harry Radford (vocalist) was unable to perform due to sickness. Hopefully we will be able to catch them again in the future.

The 3rd band on the lineup was Point North, a Pop Punk band from California. Rex had heard of this band before however didn’t realise she had until this moment!
Although this was their first UK/EU tour, they have visited Leeds playing Slam Dunk 3 years ago, and returned again this year, we think they fit in perfectly with the Slam Dunk experience as Point North really capture the Pop Punk genre.
Every song is upbeat, hard hitting and hard not to bob around to! Point North played 9 songs at this gig including ‘Into The Dark’ and Rex’s favourite ‘Safe And Sound’. During ‘Below The Belt’ lead singer Cody Carson of Set It Off performed with them and they sounded incredible together!
After this set, we were really looking forward to seeing them again, little did we know it would be at Slam Dunk 25 as we hadn’t decided to buy tickets for that yet!

The final band of the night, and the ones we were excited to finally see, Set It Off! They are a pop punk/emo band from Florida and once again we thought made a perfect example of that genre!
Opening up hard, Set It Off’s first song was ‘Wolf in Sheeps Clothing’ with the whole crowd screaming and jumping along, they quickly followed this with ‘Fake Ass Friends’ before telling us all that the last time they played in Leeds was at a Slam Dunk festival.
They then continued with ‘The Haunting’, ‘Evil people’, ‘Creating Monsters’, and ‘Kill The Lights’ before saying that this tour has validated them as a band as they sometimes felt they didn’t belong. It’s always great when people realise their worth and finally see the greatness they can and have achieved!
The day of the gig was Max’s (drummer) birthday, so we all sang happy birthday as the rest of the band brought out cake, one crowd member even gave him a birthday card! This really showed how much support this band had and was a great moment!
For ‘I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead’ Max (drummer) and Cody (lead singer) swapped roles, which also added onto our growing fondness of the band as we love bands with multi skilled members!
The next grouping of songs were ‘Parasite’, ‘N.M.E.’ and ‘Killer In The Mirror’ during this part the crowd started chanting “Yorkshire” (the county that Leeds is in) but due to a difference in accents Set It Off thought we were shouting “You’re Shit!” It didn’t take them long to realise the mistake and then they joined the chant!
Set It Off’s encore was ‘Punch Bag’ it was their first song released as an independent band and with the crowd signing along to every song, you can really tell the band has a great future and the atmosphere for their gigs is incredible!
