Interview
We’re a bit intrigued as to why vulture? Was there another bird you were considering for your band name? And why did you settle on Mother Vulture?
It was between that and Daddy Pigeon, I think we chose the wrong one.
You continued the Mother theme on your debut album from 2022 “Mother Knows Best”. If you had to pick one song from that record as the MUST LISTEN TO SONG what song would it be and why?
We’ve always thought Rabbit Hole was arguably the strongest track on the album, it didn’t get as much love as some of the other singles but it’s great for a sing along live and will likely be in the set for a long time.
Still on the topic of Mother Knows Best it’s a short album at 35 minutes long despite there being 12 tracks! Do you normally aim for short length song wise , or is it just something that happens?
We just play really fast, plus one of the tracks is a 22 second interlude so that skews the stats a bit.
How do you think the bands sound have developed through your time together? Is there something you used to do that you would like to revisit at a later time?
I think we’re always trying to mature and develop. We started out with much more of a classic rock revival sound that we really don’t enjoy too much anymore.
We’re in the process of trying to get heavier and darker to match our stage presence. We want our shows to be rowdy and chaotic in the audience as well as on stage, and we’re trying to reflect that in our new music.

Your latest single “Slow Down” came out earlier this year and you was amazing enough to send us an early listen! Would you be able to break the song down a little into what inspired it?
I can’t really remember exactly where the idea came from but the song revolves around themes of time and speed, like the intro of the song is at 150bpm but then switches to 144 after the first “Slow Down” lyric.
We basically wanted something in the live set that wasn’t super fast but was still heavy, just to give us a breather if anything.
If you had to cover a song by any other band , what song would it be? But more importantly how would you put the Mother Vulture spin on it?
We generally don’t do covers, but we do occasionally chuck a bit of Bulls on Parade in the set, as part of a medley or for a special occasion. No need to put our own twist on it, the songs good enough on it’s own.
When touring what souvenirs/keepsakes do the band tend to take away from each place? I’m a bit of a magnet fiend for full disclosure!
Our bassist Chris is a bit of a magnet fiend too, but generally we just collect injuries.
I think I’m a little bit obsessed with Monster Crunch… How long did it take to come up with that chorus? It’s constantly stuck in my head!
Thanks! About 5 minutes! We stole it from a nursery rhyme so we can’t exactly take the credit.
Go Big Or Go Home is a sing-a-long hit!!! My question is , in your hometown of Bristol what other bands do you think we should check out?
Great question! Bristol is in a really great moment right now for local music. You will have no doubt heard of Heriot, Split Chain, Knives and The St Pierre Snake Invasion who are all moving on to great things right now, but also check out Seneca, Skin Failure, Krooked Tongue, Rxptrs, Perp Walk, Peach, Last Hyena, Overpower and Our Nameless Boy. I’m sure there are a million others killing it right now.
How did the band come into existence in the first place , were you all already mates?
We all met at BIMM Bristol studying music, we actually met our singer Georgi at an open mic night a week before term started so we managed to nab him before anyone else could!
If you could play a show with your dream support , who would they be and why?
There’s a few on the bucket list, we’re lucky enough to have ticked a couple of already having played with our heros in Demob Happy and Skindred last year. We’d love to play with Death From Above 1979 or The Bronx for the chaotic vibes and The Darkness just for how fun that would be.
Where exactly would be your dream show?
Selling out SWX Bristol has been our long term goal for a long time. One day we’ll get there!
Finally when can fans expect a new album!
When it’s done
