What Band Got You Hooked On Heavier Music Originally?

Motorhead!!!

Motorhead – The Game (Triple H) (All Rights Are Retained By Motorhead)

There was just something about the first time that I heard “Ace Of Spades” on Tony Hawks Pro Skater 3 that hit me different than anything else had before.

Motorhead – Ace Of Spades (All Rights Are Retained By Motorhead)

The way that Lemmy played the bass like a guitar was also something I had never seen or heard before. Everything louder than everyone else, yeah they really were not wrong! I really loved Lemmy’s gritty vocal tone too. Also who sings into the microphone like that…

Motorhead – Overkill (All Rights Are Retained By Motorhead)

Sure they were not the heaviest band in the world but certainly my gateway band to heavier stuff I would say! I was lucky enough to see them once before Lemmy died and truly treasure that 1 day at Download Festival 2013 because of that! I want to know though what band got you into heavier music?

Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Zeppelin got me into heavier music, but Judas Priest got me into metal.

I think its a unique experience that gets us into this sort of music. Priest likely wouldn’t have impacted you in the same way without the bands before them 🙂

Zeppelin and Sabbath for sure, but I agree with richardbist. Priest is the band that got me pumping my fist.

What about Priest do you think?

They were the first band to actually embrace the “metal” label. It was a big part of their image. Certainly they built upon the bands that came before them, but their music was hard-driving and different than a lot of the downtuned gloom-and-doom stuff that was out there at the time. Thrash metal never would have existed without Priest. Which means fans of Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and others of that stripe also owe it to themselves to listen to Priest.

I think everyone needs to give Priest a go to be honest an incredible band!

I can’t remember my exact age, but I might have been 8? The Internet says the song was release in 1994.

I was sitting on the living room floor when a commercial for a monster truck rally (show?) came on. The song they used was Korn’s Blind. It blew my mind.

Hooked on rock/metal/heavy beats ever since! 😀 I’ll never forget the “AAAARREEEE YOOOOUUUU REEEAADDDYYYY!!!!???” followed by a bunch of energy inducing rhythm and noise, lol. I also had influence from my mom. Her divorce music (early 90’s as well) was Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Metallica…etc.

Oh, thanks. It’s ok! My parents are crazy lol. I’m glad for the exposure to the music as well! A lot of healing came from rock/metal for me. 🙂

        But yeah… my parents…

Married after 11? years together, divorced 2 years later. Couldn’t live together but never fully left each other alone, never officially back together either, but hang out all the time, called the cops on each other many times, almost got married again. Etc etc etc.

My dad is a drummer, I guess it’s part of that rock and roll lifestyle. (Jk it’s mostly my non-musician mom lol)

It’s been 46 years of this insanity lol. (I’m 39)

Even today they still hang out together lol but also hate each other. 🤷‍♀️ 🤣

It’s better they got divorced. But I’m not sure it changed anything.

I’m perpetually confused by them lol. I gave up labeling their relationship back when I was a kid 😂

Holy crap that is some messed up but lovely relationships at the same time! I think giving up labelling them is a wise move 😉
