What Is The Rock Music Misconception You Would Like To Change?

That rock music makes people angry! Ok sure thinking about people thinking that is making me angry even now , but its not the music doing that!

Led Zeppelin – Immigrant Song (All Rights Are Retained By Led Zeppelin)

Honestly I get the misconception, it’s loud, it’s heavy and more often than not it contains people screaming like a possessed demon. However that really is not what rock is, or the effect it has for so many people.

Black Stone Cherry – White Trash Millionaire (All Rights Are Retained By Black Stone Cherry)

If I am having a bad day I honestly need rock music to calm me down! There has even been studies done (you can find them yourselves) that have proven that people who listen to rock music are calmer than those that do not. So Dr Fox prescribes an album of Led Zeppelin, an EP by Black Stone Cherry, and a single by Ghost!

Ghost – Mary On A Cross (All Rights Are Retained By Ghost)

Let me know in the comments the common misconception about rock music you would like to set straight!

The problem is that most people think it is kind of demonic and at times might even ridicule the society. I would change this by making them realize that some rock music is centered around the truth about the society in general, they are no mocking you, they are only telling you why the society is this way

      Totally!

Rock music is a fairly accurate view of society as a whole. I think it is demonised because people cant handle the truth

Same here. Crank it up! Better than scream therapy. 👌

It’s true, many people view rock music in a negative light. Terms like “angry”, “demonic”, “satanic” are bandied about and yeah – that makes me angry too!

Sometimes scream vocals have that effect on my anyways haha!

I think its partly because of the Norwegian Death and Black metal to be honest with the images of them burning churches etc.

If people don’t like rock they don’t have to listen. Personally I love it, and I’ll keep on rockin’ until I can’t. 😎🎵🎶🎵

I think real rock music (and not just the noise that sometimes passes for rock) is wonderful, from its origins to the present day.

What would you class as “noise” ? 🙂 No judgement just interested 🙂

I don’t know much about modern music, and I’m already old, but for me, “noise” is that deafening din that blows out my eardrums and seems to make my heart race. So, for me, it’s no longer pleasure, but suffering.

I totally get that , so it would be fair to say you prefer more melodic bands then ? 🙂

I still remember the satanic panic of the early 80s and how that’s still a thing in some areas. Groups like Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden aren’t satanic, they were inspired by horror movies and books. It still amazes me that Frank Zappa and Dee Snider testified before congress on this.

I think it was needed for them to testify though , its the only way that nonsense could get squashed!

I have to agree that the notion that rock makes people do bad things is SO wrong. I’m with you–if I need a lift, or I’m angry about something that has happened, or even if I’m sad, there’s nothing like some loud, raucous rock music to clear the bad feelings away. I feel sorry for people who refuse to try this time-proven musical therapy.

Oh, and rocking out in the car driving down the highway is the BEST therapy ever. I’m going on my semi-annual road trip to Toronto in September, and you can believe I’ll be engaging in some serious soul-cleansing rock music in the car. 🙂

That sounds like quite the trip! Especially due to the awesome tunes 😉

Rock music especially my favorite oldies is what I need to make me smile and enjoy past memories. Having said that I can equally enjoy Ole’ Blue Eyes crooning to me or even Pavarotti singing a great aria, Rock music does not take away from the imagination of good music it totally adds to it,
