Who First Introduced You To Rock Music?

I was first introduced to rock music at a very young age by my father. I probably remember from like the age of 3 and all that was ever played in the car was rock music of some sort.

More often than not it was bands like Iron Maiden, Metallica and Bon Jovi. Certainly am not complaining about that musical education from a very young age.

I still regularly attend rock music events with him now, and while we no longer have the exact same tastes (I go a bit heavier) we still have a great time!

    Mom was rock, Dad was old fashioned country… I’ve been listening to Bon Jovi and The Eagles since I was in my momma’s tummy.

      First concert I saw was with my Mom… Eddie Money LMAO. The second concert, also with her was Peral Jam in Seattle.

    Probably my Dad, he introduced to me to all sorts of music. He introduced to Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, The Eagles, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Willie Nelson, The Beatles, Traveling Wilburys, Johnny Cash, Tom Waits, The Pogues and later on Joy Division, Oasis, The Libertines, Babyshambles. Plus So many more.

    2000s radio was my education. I loved segments about history of rock. So lucky that was one of three stations we got!

    The Ed Sullivan show. I first saw the Rolling Stones on that show and went out (at the tender age of 10) with my saved up allowance to by the single 45RPM, “Jumpin’ Jack Flash.” My dad was a musician, but he was more into big band and Frank Sinatra, Engelbert Humperdink, Tom Jones, and more.

    The usual way…older siblings who allowed me to listen to their vinyl. Beatles, Stones, Hendrix, Sabbath, Zeppelin. It was a great introduction!

    My mom loved 60s California beach pop/rock. My dad liked classical. Plus, we grew up in Oklahoma, being rebellious meant listening to KATT 100, the only rock radio station in the state (everything else was country or gospel).

    I’m really not sure. It must have been when I was at school, aged about 12 – 13. I remember when the other girls were raving about Simon and Garfunkel’s ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ album, but I wasn’t keen (I learned to appreciate it when I was older) and I remember Alice Cooper’s ‘School’s Out’ single, which was more me. I bought Black Sabbath’s ‘Paranoid’ album as my first, about 1970 – 1971, when I was 14 – 15, and at 15 I got a Saturday job in a record shop, so I was exposed to all kinds of music. So I guess I must have heard The Stones at some point before all that, they having formed in 1962, when I was 6. No particular person, therefore, just listening to the radio in general. 😎

    My dad. Dad liked all rock and even newer rock as music changed. So I can appreciate the classics and enjoy new music which he passed on to me and my sister.

    Both my parents were teens in the 50s so I listened to Elvis, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Carl Perkins, etc. since before I can remember. I still own all of my Mom’s original 45s of early rock and roll hits.

    Siblings, innit? First The Beatles, then Queen, then Bowie. Soent a spell practicing my falsetto along to Kate Bush. Then when my brother went to university I had access to his vinyl and cassettes to find Kill ’em All and …Justice, and The Pixies and Swervedriver

    Not sure. When you grow up with a brood of brothers, a Dad who had a massive collection of music tapes and a region where rock is religion, you just grow into it.

    Also my dad. He listened to a mixture of classic rock & R&B when I was growing up, so I guess I also inherited my eclectic music tastes from him, except of course my music is better! 😛

        Jimi Hendrix, of course. Creedence Clearwater Revival, Lynyrd Skynyrd and AC/DC were at the top of the list and we can’t forget Ike & Tina, a nice blend of both. We jam to the classics but then one of my “newbies” slips in and he gives me the old man grumpy face. My teen years were rough b/c he really wasn’t a fan of grunge hahaha

        I taste is exotic compared to them. They listened to some rock back then but went into country. I started out country from my mom then went into rock, old rock and roll, then found alternate and classical. I love the variety of all music genres, and I particularly prefer the music verses the words.

    My dad for sure. We’d listen to Queen and all brother and 2 sisters would run in a circle around the coffee table being rock stars to bohemian rhapsody 🤣 I think we had fake guitars and stuff too – good times!
