Who Has/Had The Best Voice In Rock?

I think this has to go to one Farrokh Bulsara. Or as most people know him Freddie Mercury! The legend was born in Zanzibar before locating to England to escape a revolution. Little did his parents know but he was going to be the voice of his own revolution.

Queen – Bohemian Rhapsody (All Rights Are Retained By Queen)

As a frontman not only was he flamboyant, but he also backed it up with a four-octave vocal range. With one of the most recognisable voices in all of rock music Freddie was truly one of a kind. When combined with the other members of Queen magic really happened!

Queen – It’s A Hard Life (All Rights Are Retained By Queen)

Some classic tracks that highlight his voice are “Bohemian Rhapsody, Don’t Stop Me Now, Killer Queen, It’s A Hard Life”.

Queen – Killer Queen (All Rights Are Retained By Queen)

The performance at Live Aid will go down as probably the greatest ever rock performance, if you have not seen it please go and watch it on youtube… Thank you for your music Freddie, I just wish you had not been taken from us too early! R.I.P

Queen – Don’t Stop Me Now (All Rights Are Retained By Queen)

I want to know though who do you think has/had the greatest voice in rock music ? Let me know in the comments!

Emma Boster from Dying Wish! Admittedly metal-core but amazing vocals nonetheless 🤘🏻

Bowie–his range in the 70s and 80s was off the charts. I don’t know if you’d consider him rock, but Morten Harkett (Ah-Ha) was amazing. He could belt out a note for over a minute. I say “was” because he just retired from performing after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s.

Oh he stopped ? Didn’t he perform on the UK version of the masked singer not too long ago ?

It’s possible–he just made this announcement recently–the beginning of June:

I’ve always loved Steve Perry’s voice. Always found his voice to be powerful, emotive and angelic and I’ve always been impressed with his impressive vocal range. Plus he was nicknamed; the voice.

How to choose from so many excellent vocalists? Corey Taylor; Elton John; Pat Benatar; Roger Daltrey; Lizzy Hale; Amy Lee; Shaun Morgan; Ann and Nancy Wilson; Chester Bennington

I have to agree, I think for male vocals, Freddie and Steve Perry or Steve Walsh from Kansas. For female vocals, I’d go with Linda Ronstadt or Pat Benatar.

I agree with some of the other posters here: Mercury, Steve Perry, & Bowie were great.

I’d also say Robert Plant. Great range when he was younger, and his voice has aged like fine wine.

I completely agree with you Freddie Mercury was pretty much the greatest Voice ever in rock ‘n’ roll. I think I read somewhere that part of why he had such a unique voice was that he had several extra teeth in his mouth and it actually did something to his vibrato or did something to away his vocals resonated.

I would go with James Hetfield of Metallica due to his voice having great energy

    Does Eddie Vedder count?
He wasn’t the loudest or the flashiest, nor did he have the best range …
But when he sang – I listened – because he sounded like he meant it.

For me, I would say Steve Perry. So powerful and raw.

So difficult to choose, so many great voices out there. Mercury, Bowie, Jagger, Turner – take your pick. Personal favourites here range from Ian Anderson for making me really listen, through Joplin for raw emotion to Joe Cocker for range, volume and sheer grittiness. 😎

Freddie Mercury has Indian roots too. Studied here.

You know there’s a special place for you wherever you land 😁. Why do you come up with questions that make me question 🤣

I was going to say Steve Perry but everyone already went there. Instead I’ll say Paul Weller of The Jam.

I agree with you about Freddie, but I’d also add Mike Patton of Faith No More (and all his other groups). The things that guy can do with his voice is mindblowing.

Depending on the song I still get chocked up on some of the Queen concert videos, Freddie always shines,
