This is without a doubt Sleep Token! In the rock community now there is a real divide between people who love them and people who cannot stand them. There really does not seem to be anyone in the middle. We previously reviewed The Summoning by the band which is easily my favourite song by them. They also headlined this years Download Festival!
The band who are fronted by Vessel, deliver tokens (songs) in honour of and to their deity Sleep. Hence the name. All members prefer to stay anonymous just like other bands did such as Slipknot and Ghost.
Their music can be cut down into several subgenres and actually different genres altogether. This is where I think the divide happens. You have influences from rap,r&b, pop. All of which are not often seen alongside rock. But then you have bits of funk,djent and hardcore all appearing in the same song… That is why they have recently had success in the charts!
Having seen them live, I am fully sold on their music and vision for the project they are developing. Which I must say are all done very well. With attention to detail off the charts I can’t wait to see them again and also listen to their next album whenever that might be. Vessel’s voice is absolutely incredible, the drumming is amazing and man do these guys know how to do a breakdown.
