Who Is The Greatest Frontman/Woman In Rock History?

This is similar to another question we answered recently where Freddie Mercury was the answer we gave. I won’t be doing the same here…

Led Zeppelin – Immigrant Song (All Rights Are Retained By Led Zeppelin)

Robert Plant , the legendary Led Zeppelin (and Band Of Joy) frontman is known for his banshee like vocals. He is often regarded as the best rock singer of all time…

Led Zeppelin – Stairway To Heaven (All Rights Are Retained By Led Zeppelin)

Seriously how can you not appreciate songs like “Stairway To Heaven, Immigrant Song, Whole Lotta Love”. Rather interestingly Plant himself thinks that Freddie Mercury and Jeff Buckley had a better voice than him (From a 2017 interview on Q Tv). I disagree, how can you go from Stairway, then to immigrant song as the same vocalist. And recordings show me he was quite the performer!

Led Zeppelin – Whole Lotta Love (All Rights Are Retained By Led Zeppelin)

I never got to see Robert Plant either as part of Led Zeppelin or solo, but if I can make either happen I will do. I want to know though who do you think the best frontman/woman ever in rock is ?

Why Stevie Nicks is the GOAT (in my book at least):

Lyrics that feel like secret spells (“Rhiannon,” “Gold Dust Woman,” “Landslide”)

A voice that breaks and builds you in the same breath

Flowing layers, shawls, boots, and an aura of mystery … she turned fashion into sacred armor

Fierce independence: Even when in the band … she was beyond it

I agree with you on Robert Plant, but Freddy Mercury and Rob Halford should get a shout out, as well. All three have great pipes, but I think Mercury and Halford also work the crowd really well. Just look at Mercury’s performance at Live Aid.

On the female side, Chrissie Hynde from The Pretenders, and the amazing Tina Turner.

Ah I only didnt say freddie because I put him down for another of my questions 🙂

Halford I was not as keen on, but that doesnt take away the point that you’re right. he is a great front man!

What do you think to Lzzy Hale from Halestorm, out of curiosity 🙂

His voice is so awesome and when the guitar riff changes, James brings the energy along with it. Enter Sandman and Sad But True are really cool examples of it

I know he recorded in the South and got called “country” but I think there couldn’t be a rock-n-roll front man without Johnny Cash. My first thought was Robert Plant, though, I must admit.

I had to sleep on it but the greatest Rock and Roll Front Woman has to be Janis Joplin for me, though Blondie plays in my head just as much.

Sorry but I’d go with David Lee Roth and runner up, Mick Jaggar. Those Guys knew how to entertain. Women; the Wilson sisters and runner up, Stevie Nicks.
