After seeing RØRY and As December Falls in Bristol at the Misery Loves Company Festival, we were very excited to see them again in Nottingham, especially as it is As December Falls home town!
We got to Rock City around 10 minutes before the doors opened and had to walk most of the way up Talbot Street to get in the queue, it was for sure the longest we had seen at this venue but it was unsurprising that this gig was so popular.
Despite the long queue it didn’t take us too long to get inside where we had a look at merch, we bought a vinyl from Lake Malice and they were kind enough to sign it for us, and a RØRY long sleeve that Rex has basically lived in since the gig!

The first band of the night were Lake Malice a metalcore/electronic rock band made up of Alice Guala and Blake Cornwall from Brighton. We hadn’t really listened to them a lot before this but we have since, you could tell a lot of the crowd were there to see them with lots of singing and jumping around going on!
They performed some of their top songs ‘Blossom’ & ‘Mitsoko’, ending their 7 song set with ‘Bloodbath’ putting on an energetic performance that the crowd mirrored, the whole venue was filled with energy and enthusiasm!

With a short break and a quick trip to the bar we headed back into the crowd just as As December Falls came on stage, the whole audience exploded, you could definitely tell this was a local band due to the incredible support they received, including someone on the barrier saying it was the 25th time they have seen As December Falls live!
They opened their set with ‘Ride’, ‘Therapy’ and then ‘Mayday’ Shaun (the merch guy) crowd surfed from the stage at this point to get back to the merch stand, he was carried the whole way to the door just showing how full the venue was!
After a set that felt way too short As December Falls finished with two of our favourite songs ‘Angry Cry’ and ‘Carousel’, we have yet to see them as a headlining band, but we are keeping an eye out for when we can!

Finally on stage was RØRY, after discovering her at Download Festival last year, this will be the third time we have seen her since and definitely the best!
RØRY came out to a smoke lit stage performing ‘In The Bible’ & ‘if pain could talk, what would it say?’ before asking how Nottingham was doing tonight. She started the set strong with playing some of her popular hits ‘UNCOMPLICATED’ and ‘Baby Vendetta’ and ‘Help your friends get sober’ which the crowd loved!
With more time to speak about her life, struggles and how she got to be where she is RØRY made the crowd emotional with her powerful songs and moving history. She thank the crowd for their support throughout the years and she wouldn’t be where she was without her and supporting her own record label.
When performing ‘My Funeral Song’ Bethany (As December Falls singer) came on to perform with her which was a nice surprise, one welcomed by the crowd.
She went on the balcony with the crowd to chants of RØRY which she responded “Are you trying to make me cry?”, whilst waiting for Charlie ‘guitarist’ she was talking about getting sober and going to therapy and without it, she wouldn’t be standing there today, she is a great influence for anyone struggling in life. Once Charlie arrived they performed 2 acoustic songs ‘One Drink Away’ & ‘the apology I’ll never receive’.
For her encore RØRY performed ‘SORRY I’M LATE’ & ‘BLOSSOM’ which made her total a whopping 19 songs! We recommend everyone to listen to her debut album ‘RESTORATION’ as it’s amazing!
We really enjoyed the vibe of the night and all 3 bands who we can’t wait to see again in the future.
