From The Archives: 70s Vol 1 – Scorpions – In Trance

This is “From The Archives” a feature where we take a trip back to a previous decade and discuss an album! We will talk about highlight tracks that should not be missed. As well as reasons why we think the album was so influential and successful.

The Album Breakdown

The 3rd studio album from German hard rock band Scorpions is what we will focus on today. It is probably what most people would consider their real breakthrough work too.

The album saw the band go more towards a melodic hard rock sound vs their earlier work which leant more towards psychedelic and progressive. This album is catchier and much more driven by riffs than their earlier work.

Highlight Tracks

The title track is a haunting ballad that manages to intertwine moodiness and heaviness to perfection. It went on to be a staple of the bands live show.

Robot man is a personal favourite, its a fast and almost aggressive track that showcased the bands heavier side.

Uli Roth’s guitar work, deserves a special mention all on its own, seriously this album might as well be an ode to his guitar!

First saw the Scorps when they replaced Thin Lizzy at Reading Festival in 79 or 80. Great band.

I’d have preferred to see thin lizzy but it’s not the worst replacement is it
