Fox’s Recommendations
Here are my top two songs for this band as well as a little explationation why!
1 – Holiday
If you are looking for a mix between a protest anthem and a song to energize you then is there any better than this? In my opinion easily the best song on the American Idiot album too. I think it blends the pop friendly hooks with the raw energy of punk! That riff to open, followed not far behind by the drums, chef’s kiss!
2 – American Idiot
A middle finger to the political scene of the time, and one that was well and truly needed. The band have changed the words recently when I have seen them live to talk about the current state of the political environment in the USA. I don’t know about that, but what I do know is that this is the song that got me into the band in the first place.
I had never heard anything like it and seeing them perform it live on tv was enough for me to ask for the album for Christmas! The guitar solo is insanely memorable too, as well as having some of the best drumming on the whole album.
Fox’s Wildcard
Everyone loves the odd wildcard… It might not be anywhere near their best or well known song but its worth a listen!
This track from the bands most recent album I feel shows the bands raw vulnerability. As well as their ability to touch on the full depth of emotions. On an album that is rather aggressive in nature this track dials it back a bit and lets Billie Joe’s vocals really take the limelight.
