From the ashes of the weekly song poll rises “What Is The Best Song By”. A very similar segment where I want to know what your favourite song(s) by the selected artist is! You can let us know in the comments!
The best thing is that if you don’t know the artist then you can see both our recommendations as well as those by other people.
Fox’s Recommendations
Here are my top two songs for this band as well as a little explationation why!
1 – There Is A Light That Never Goes Out
This is 100% the best song by The Smiths, it has the signature mix of yearning and fatalism by Morrissey. For example “To die by your side is such a heavenly way to die”. There is an almost cinematic quality to the guitar on this track with it having orchestral stylings. I like how they take such morbid content and make it sound like a good thing. But yeah it is depressing at the same time!
2 – This Charming Man
I think this is as far contrasted as you get from the first song I selected! The guitar riff is ICONIC, playful and fun. I actually prefer the vocal delivery in this song too with it feeling a little bit less depressing. There is also lots of double meaning in the lyrics that you should be on the lookout for!
Fox’s Wildcard
Everyone loves the odd wildcard… It might not be anywhere near their best or well known song but its worth a listen!
This feels like one of the bands sincere tracks compared to the witty sarcasm they are known for. I think it has some of the most emotional depth in all of their work too. Plus who doesn’t like a stripped back acoustic track?
