What Is The Best Song By Kings Of Leon

From the ashes of the weekly song poll rises “What Is The Best Song By”. A very similar segment where I want to know what your favourite song(s) by the selected artist is! You can let us know in the comments!

The best thing is that if you don’t know the artist then you can see both our recommendations as well as those by other people.

Fox’s Recommendations

Here are my top two songs for this band as well as a little explanation why!

I had this one in my number 2 spot for a while , but to be honest the raw emotion I feel when I hear this song elevates it up. It feels like the vocalist is bearing his soul and when that happens something magic is made! The backing vocals are spot on as are the incredible instrumentals…

Kings Of Leon – Use Somebody (All Rights Are Retained By Kings Of Leon)

So this is their biggest song , so it is hardly amazing that I picked it. Growing up when this song was around and about it was all everyone was talking about. It even felt taboo in places! Being 15 on its release it was a real eye opener and felt very much like a coming of age song for me and my friends!

Kings Of Leon – Sex On Fire (All Rights Are Retained By Kings Of Leon)

Fox’s Wildcard

Everyone loves the odd wildcard… It might not be anywhere near their best or well known song but its worth a listen!

I honestly forget this song is by Kings Of Leon all the time. It comes on often on my liked songs shuffle and man is it great! It is raw and sounds nothing like their later songs but I love it!

I like the wildcard. Everybody has to start somewhere, but early works are often neglected for just that fact. I like them, however in music, books, painting, whatever, because they announce a new artiste on the scene and help us chart the course of their development: rather like watching a child grow. Thanks for sharing. 😎

I feel the same, this is why whenever I interview bands I ask them to name the best song from their debut album. Gives both their insight into what they consider their best early work and some love to an often otherwise overlooked album.

One of the most consistently praised yet overlooked gems in Kings of Leon’s discography is “Pickup Truck”, the closing track from their 2008 album Only by the Night. It’s a raw, narrative-driven Southern rock scorcher that paints a vivid, booze-soaked tale of regret and fleeting romance, with Caleb Followill’s gravelly drawl cutting through twangy guitars and a driving rhythm section that builds to an explosive payoff. Fans and critics alike call it a “masterpiece” for its storytelling and relatability—evoking late-night bad decisions under neon lights—yet it pales in streams compared to hits like “Sex on Fire” (over 1 billion) or “Use Somebody” (700 million+), sitting at just a fraction of that with under 50 million Spotify plays.

What makes it feel like a secret? The album’s massive success overshadowed deeper cuts, and it’s rarely played live or featured in setlists, leaving it buried for casual listeners. But dive in, and it’s the kind of song that hooks you on repeat, proving KoL’s early grit hasn’t faded. Give it a spin—you might wonder why it’s not blasting from every bar jukebox.
