The Album Breakdown
This Hawkwind album as a whole is much more cohesive than previous outings which are somewhat spacey and loose. The addition of Simon House (Violin, Keyboard) really added something worthwhile to the band too. While they play with space rock and hard rock, they tend to do so in equal measure meaning that more people are likely to enjoy it.
On the flip side of the band being a bit more serious with things it means that they lost an edge of experimentation that they were known for! It has been called out by some as being a little bit “Safe”.
Highlight Tracks
The Psychedelic Warlords (Disappear in Smoke)
I feel like this song opens the album and sets the tone for the heavy riffing and spacey atmosphere that is to follow. I enjoy the strong rhythmic vibes and the violin too! It is a much more mature song than what the band were putting out prior to this while still maintaining the Hawkwind feel.
Wind of Change
This is much more delicate than the track above and mostly instrumental! It highlights the bands slower side, also very atmospheric. This track screams front and centre to be that Hawkwind are capable of texture and mood and not just loud riffs!
