For today’s review we traveled to The Hairy Dog in Derby for the second time, to see The Meffs for the third time. This was the final show of their Grass Routes Tour and we’ve been excited for this one! We last saw The Meffs perform live at Slam Dunk Festival North this year, you can read about it here.
The doors opened at 5:00, face up at 5:30 and the Meffs on at 6:45, we really appreciated the early gig especially on a Sunday night as it makes a change to getting home late and getting tired at our day jobs on Monday.
The first band on tonight was Face Up who are female fronted Hardcore Punk band. They were very good live and full of energy, they pulled a big crowd filled with people of all ages, with lots of dancing, head banging and mosh pits!
The first band on tonight was Face Up who are female fronted Hardcore Punk band. They were very good live and full of energy, they pulled a big crowd filled with people of all ages, with lots of dancing, head banging and mosh pits!

They performed ‘O.D.B’, ‘Rise Now’, ‘The World Is Ours’ and our favourite of the night ‘Stand, Fight, Live, Die’, during the show Rox (Vocals) came out into the crowd whilst performing and got involved with everyone.
During the end of Face Up!’s performance we went and spoke to Lilly at the merch stand and bought 2 vinyls which she kindly signed, she also gave us a patch and a pin badge for free, she is an absolute legend! We thanked her for doing an interview with us. If you missed the interview you can check it out here.
During the break the Rox (singer of Face Up!) came to the merchandise stand and we bought one of their vinyl too where she signed it and then collected signatures from the rest of the band for us too! An amazing day for our signed vinyl collection.
After a short break it was time for the Meffs, the punk rock duo made sure we had a party with their fast paced riffs and drums. There was a lot of dancing and plenty of mosh pits throughout the show.
The Meffs performed ‘Deathwish’ and ‘Everything’s Gone’ where Lilly asked the crowd to do a big mosh pit but make sure to look after each other whilst doing it.

They went on to perform ‘Stand Up, Speak Out’, a cover of the Prodigy’s ‘Breathe’ and ‘Wasted On Women’ which kept the punk party going strong.
The Meffs played 3 of their early demo songs including ‘People’ then performed a new song ‘Business’, during this song they asked people to come on stage, including Lewis’s mother and her friend, to crowd surf! St Jimmy went to the front to help carry the crowd as Rex stayed back holding all the vinyls, we thought this was fantastic to see a band get the crowd involved as much as possible.
The Meffs play our favourite song ‘Broken Brains, Broken Britain’, where Lilly played guitar in the middle of the crowd whilst they ran a circle pit around her, which was awesome to watch. Some people did fall over but were quickly helped up by everyone else.

The duo finished strong with ‘Stamp It Out’ and ‘Clowns’, the more we see these guys live the more we enjoy them. They thanked Face Up! for performing as they had played 3 shows within 24 hours which is insane, they thanked the crowd for coming and then went to the merchandise stand to meet fans and sign items, which is where we managed to add Lewis’s signature to our vinyls.
Both bands put on a fantastic show, we hope we get the opportunity to see them perform again in the future. Punk is not dead!
