Albums Of The Year 2025 – The Wombats – Oh! The Ocean – Honourable Mention

Fox Reviews Rock - Albums Of The Year 2025

It has been a great year in the realms of all things rock! What better way to celebrate the brilliant new releases of 2025 by counting down our favourites.

Band Background

The Wombats (A band I saw at Y NOT Festival this year) are an indie band from Liverpool. They are best known for their witty lyrics, upbeat melodies and catchy hooks. Their songs have matured as they themselves have but without losing their melodic edge.

What’s Good About This Album

Oh! The Ocean marries the signature energy The Wombats are known for with real deep emotional honesty. With themes of mental health, family and self-reflection it gives their fun indie vibe a grounding effect. The result is an album that is still catchy but on a deeper level.

Favourite Tracks

Setting the tone immediately out the gate the album’s opening track is vulnerable yet upbeat. With themes of social anxiety and isolation it really is a wonder how they manage to make it feel so melodic and fun!

The Wombats – Sorry I’m Late, I Didn’t Want To Come (All Rights Are Retained By The Wombats)

With a real driving bass and energetic drums combined with urgent tone on the vocals it hammers home a raw emotional tension. Yet this is still a sound that feels uplifting, I also enjoy the heartbeat like sound sound they make.
