A-Z Of Rock: P Part 1

Welcome to our weekly alphabet themed rock post! In this post we will talk about a specific letter of the alphabet and associate it with all things rock music!

This will include a band with that letter, a song as well as a rocker. There is an accompanying playlist so that the selected songs can be enjoyed! Click the Spotify link below and remember to save it!

Band

Yet another Grunge band that emerged from the Seattle scene, Pearl Jam became one of THE bands from the 1990’s. Emotional honest and anthemic rock become their calling card, and made them one of the most enduring acts of their generation.

Pearl Jam – Black (All Rights Are Retained By Pearl Jam)

Song

This song is straight up a heavy metal classic! With rapid drumming, high-pitched vocals and guitar solos that nearly catch fire. This song no more than any other put Judas Priest on the map.

Judas Priest – Painkiller (All Rights Are Retained By Judas Priest)

Rocker

Phil Anselmo, might have had some bad headlines in his past, but his fierce vocals and stage presence pushed Pantera to legendary status. His contributions led to changes in groove metal evolution.

Pantera – Cowboys From Hell (All Rights Are Retained By Pantera)

I’ve always favored Priest’s 70s output, that New Wave of British Metal sound. In the 80s they were overproduced, in my opinion, and sounded too polished. I liked it when they sounded a bit more rough. Still love them and all their work over the decades, but my heart lies in albums like Stained Class and Sad Wings of Destiny.

P is a goldmine! Placebo, Pixies, Paramore, Pearl Jam, Paradise Lost, Patrick Wolf, Pink Floyd, Portishead, Pulp, The Pogues, and… er… Paris Hilton. ain’t no shortage here. On the other hand, I’m looking forwards to Q (I can think of three), X and Z. I can think of one or two for the latter, maybe two for X?

Oh yeah. Guess it’d be an extra challenge to only have songs and bands that share the same letter! Hmm. Queen could have Killer Queen, so that’d be fine. Iron Maiden have Iron Maiden. I’m sure it’s doable for most letters….
