New Rock Roundup
Rock
Moon Fever – Masses.
Moon Fever! Man I love this band. Just wait till the lead vocalist kicks in with his unique and powerful pipes! This is on the softer end of what the band produce, and it’s a little bit more experimental too. But over all this song is amazing for those vocals especially on the chorus!
Metal
Bring Me The Horizon – Wonderwall.
Ok so this is a slight cheat, as it was actually released in JANUARY! But in my defence it isn’t exactly easy to find and I have been trying to do that since it came out. It does the job brilliantly as a cover in that it keeps the originals sentiments but adds new stylings and emphasis. Vocally Sykes is brilliant on this.
Metalcore
Telling Secrets – DYTIMI?.
There is a trend recently of metalcore bands focusing heavily on producing these really ambient clean vocals. This is no different and I enjoy that about this song. But I prefer the kick drum that feels like its coming out of my chest! By the time the harsh vocals come in they are almost like backing vocals. I did consider not adding this song because of that but it’s a cracking song.
Punk
Catpiss – Not Dogshit.
This might be the worst name for a band ever. But that being said there is no way I am going to forget it anytime soon. So perhaps it does the intended job? The song is actually a rather clever and funny for a hardcore track.
Pop Punk
Tigers Jaw – Head Is Like A Sinking Stone.
I really enjoy the guitar riff that flows like a river across this track. Vocally the verses are a little bit samey, but the chorus comes into its own. Catchy too, and I cant forget to mention the drum work is excellent. As is the guitar solo!
Alternative
The Blue Stones – A Thousand Miles.
I never knew I needed a cover of this song, let alone by a 2 piece band from Canada! Man I was wrong. This is great with its deep bassline and vocals that feel as vulnerable as the Vanessa Carlton version. This is the 2nd cover on this weeks songs , and this is the better of the two! Listen to that FUZZZZ!!!!
Indie
Arts Fishing Club – Feed Me To The Wolves.
This dude has an amazing voice. It reminds me of someone else but my brain is currently failing me on that one…Maybe you can tell me in the comments! (Maybe it’s Kings Of Leon) I think the drum beat while simplistic ties the track together with the ambient sounds the guitar is added.
