From The Archives: 80s Vol 5 – Megadeth – Peace Sells… But Who’s Buying?

This is “From The Archives” a feature where we take a trip back to a previous decade and discuss an album! We will talk about highlight tracks that should not be missed. As well as reasons why we think the album was so influential and successful.

The Album Breakdown

This was the bands breakthrough record and a cornerstone of the rise of Thrash in the mid 1980’s. Their political commentary, technical playing and aggressive speed established Megadeth.

Strengths

Dave Mustaine’s song writing really comes to the forefront on this album. As well as the bands complexity and tight musicianship. Lyrically this album is as sharp as a snakes tongue!

Weaknesses

The original release of this album has poor production, resulting in muddy instrumentals. But this was later fixed by remastered versions so listen to those instead!

Highlight Tracks

One of the bands signature anthems even to this day! It blends memorable bass with political lyrics and mid tempo riffs. The accessibility of this song and its cynicism made it a thrash classic.

Megadeth – Peace Sells (All Rights Are Retained By Megadeth)

A burst of speed to open the album! It moves between riffs without ever missing a lick. This song demonstrates the bands technical edge.

Megadeth – Wake Up Dead (All Rights Are Retained By Megadeth)

Other Notable Albums From The Band

Rust In Peace

Countdown To Extinction

So Far, So Good… So What!

Loved the album when it came out and played the hell out of it, but yeah, that production was pretty bad. I haven’t heard the remasters, so I need to check them out.
