This is “From The Archives” a feature where we take a trip back to a previous decade and discuss an album! We will talk about highlight tracks that should not be missed. As well as reasons why we think the album was so influential and successful.
The Album Breakdown
The foundation of the nu-metal genre! It blended downtuned riffs, hip hop influences and raw emotion. The unfiltered way it looks at trauma and alienation made it a ground-breaking statement.
Strengths
This introduced a completely new music style, with seven string guitars and Jonathan Davis’s signature vocal style. Including all those harrowing touches. It is raw and unapologetically so, this adds emotional weight to it and sets it well apart from the rest of the 90’s trends in rock.
Weaknesses
Some people might find the subject matter a little bit too harsh. The repetitive groves can make the album feels a bit uneven in places.
Highlight Tracks
From the very moment the song opens with “Are you ready?” the song explodes into a crushing riff. The vocal delivery balanced with heavy riffs and drums sets the tone for the rest of the album.
Do you like nursery rhymes and bagpipes. You might answer yes to both of those but you will like them even more together! This twisted song shows the bands willingness to experiment and the disturbing blend of childhood imagery is excellent.
