Beneath the upbeat chords and sing along melody it features quite grotesque subject matter. Sung in a style of glee. It is obviously satire and it takes the sound of early rock and laces it with punk. The fact it is so short somehow makes it pack more of a punch.

Misfits – Last Caress (All Rights Are Retained By Misfits)

This is a later song for Misfits and its faster and meaner. It even has riffs that sometimes feel a bit like Thrash! That being said the vocals from Danzig drag it back to punk. BUT Metallica’s version is better (sorry).

The band do have a melodic heart! The clean guitar tone, steady rhythm and harmony on the vocals speak back to 1950’s pop.

The Misfits have so many stone-cold classics that some killer tracks inevitably get overshadowed by the big hitters like “Last Caress,” “Hybrid Moments,” “Skulls,” or “Die, Die My Darling.”

One of the strongest contenders for the best but very underrated song is “She” — a brooding, mid-tempo gem from their early days (unearthed on the 1985 Legacy of Brutality compilation). It captures Glenn Danzig at his peak “Evil Elvis” croon, with killer guitar tone, locked-in rhythm, and that dark, atmospheric vibe that makes it feel like the perfect horror-punk slow-burner. The lyrics (inspired by Patty Hearst) add an extra layer of twisted intrigue, yet it doesn’t get nearly the love of the faster punk anthems.

Other super-strong underrated picks that fans constantly rave about on forums like Reddit include:

• London Dungeon — moody, atmospheric, and often called one of their absolute best by diehards

• Some Kinda Hate — raw early energy with killer vocals

• American Nightmare — short, punchy, and influential on psychobilly

• Devil’s Whorehouse — slinky and sinister (the Walk Among Us version hits hardest)

If we’re talking post-Danzig/Graves era, Saturday Night is another that is criminally slept-on too.

But “She” edges it out for me as the sweet spot: killer songwriting, atmosphere for days, and still flying under the radar compared to the obvious bangers.
