From The Archives: 70s Vol 6 – Fleetwood Mac – Rumours

This is “From The Archives” a feature where we take a trip back to a previous decade and discuss an album! We will talk about highlight tracks that should not be missed. As well as reasons why we think the album was so influential and successful.

The Album Breakdown

One of the best selling albums of all time… It was created in the middle of inner turmoil for the band. It blends pop with emotional honesty, rock and impeccable songwriting.

Strengths

Amazingly well crafted songs, lovely harmonies and really memorable melodies. You will not find an album more honest than this either!

Weaknesses

If you prefer rawer textures to your rock then this might feel a little bit too polished.

Highlight Tracks

A breakup anthem with fire in its belly! A driving guitar and urgent rhythm blends rock and melodic clarity to perfection. With top notch vocals too filled with genuine passion.

Fleetwood Mac – Go Your Own Way (All Rights Are Retained By Fleetwood Mac)

Stevie Nick’s vibe floats on a dreamy groove alongside soft drums and leaves a hypnotic effect. It might be simple but that makes the atmosphere it creates even more impressive.

This was one of those rare albums that come along when least expected and make you feel good all over.

One of the best albums I never owned, but danced to at The Boar’s Head back home. Some albums just had too much air play back then. Air Play, what a concept…

Great album, although I never had my own copy. Working in a record shop on Saturdays had its benefits! 🙂

I’ve loved pretty much all of Fleetwood Mac’s output over the years, from the early blues albums to the polished rock. But Rumors is one of those lightning strikes, where everything came together just right.

I have an extended edition that includes demo versions of some of the songs and outtakes. Even the early versions sound fantastic.

I much prefer their early blues style. They had some awesome names in that time 🙂
