Welcome to our weekly alphabet themed rock post! In this post we will talk about a specific letter of the alphabet and associate it with all things rock music!

Band

This is the sweetest song about something erm lets just say less than sweet… Avenged Sevenfold have managed to make something quite frankly disgusting into a lovely heartfelt (and sometimes eaten) ballad. The band themselves should not be slept on with serious skills on all instruments. They lost their way since drummer Rev died, but their earlier work is well worth checking out!

If you want a song that is going to boost your mood, get you sticking it on repeat and make you feel a little Australian. Then this is the song for you. This girl they are singing about sounds alright too! The cough at the start of this song is absolutely iconic as is the bass line!

Jet – Are You Going To Be My Girl (All Rights Are Retained By Jet)

Rocker

Anthony Kiedis has one of the voices that probably pulled me back into rock in my early teens. The way he almost plays with words is quite inventive. This song in particular is a soft ballad like song that wrapped around the instruments like a warm hug. Rather controversially this my favourite album by the band.

Jet! Remember when they were the next big thing? My abiding memory of them is of listening to them at an audition for a band somewhere near King’s Lynn. They had no mic, which was a problem for a wannabe singer, but they did have weed. I remember desperately trying not to whitey in front of them, or in the guy’s car as he drive me back along the A47.

That band also messed around with RHCP. I love Kiedis but he’s so capable of ruining a song, at least for me. Around the World is the prime example – you’ve got this lovely song, I mean, I really think it’s great… until Kiedis decides he’s done with lyrics and coughs up random noises. I hate it, absolutely abhor it. It’s like he suddenly runs out of fucks, and if he can’t be bothered to finish the song, why should I bother listening to it. See also Frank Black
