Twat Union Discusses Their New EP ‘Don’t Blame The Peach’: Interview

Twat Union press shot 1

Introduction

Twat Union just released their explosive new EP Don’t Blame The Peach on 20th February via Alcopop! Records. Mixing humour with raw punk energy the six-piece strong band deliver anthems that champion sexual freedom, attack inequality and celebrate all things womanhood.

We were lucky enough to get chance to catch up with them we hope you enjoy the interview and Twat Union as much as we do!

Interview

I think we need to start off with the obvious. How on earth did you come up with the band name?

Twat Union: So the band name existed long before the band, and actually before we’d all met – there was a running joke in our house that one day we’d start a punk band called Twat Union and we’d all crack up and carry on making tea.

I’m pretty sure it was Alice (keys/vox) who came up with it originally (Alice is pretty sure too – she really can’t remember why or how but remembers that a) she was in the kitchen and b) it was dark outside).

And then one day, we decided to make it happen. We’ve had a few moments when we’ve wondered if the name is a bit of an obstacle to certain opportunities, but we’ve concluded that overall, it opens more doors than it closes.

Let’s kick off properly with a fun one. When on tour, who controls the power to pick the songs the band listens to as you travel around? And maybe more importantly, should they?

Twat Union: Usually it’s whoever is driving – which I think is totally fair enough! We tend to stick an album on that we love and just sing our hearts out to it (without totally blowing our voices before the show). In fact, often we’ll meow instead of singing. It’s gentler on the vocal chords and feels very twatty.

More importantly, you have just released a brand new EP, “Don’t Blame The Peach”. I would love to hear all about the concept behind the EP’s name if you can. On the face of it, it is pretty out there.

Twat Union: Yeah it’s actually a line from one of our favourite songs on the record, Period Sex – ‘you don’t blame the peach for the juice running down your hand’ – we love screaming that messy line and it felt pretty fittingly weird for the EP.

We also liked the symmetry with our first EP, ‘Don’t Look it in the Eye’, taken from the track Danger Boob. Both lines that you might miss the first time you listen, but that feel like they’re really at the heart of the EP.

“Pay Me More” feels like a good starting point for the new songs. This is obviously about the gender pay gap, which is absolutely mental in 2026. I want to know though, if you could play this song live in any building, for example Parliament or an old workplace, where would you pick and why?

Twat Union: Ah that is a great question! And one we should maybe answer carefully, haha. I think we’d love to play this song in a LOT of places and to a lot of people. Can our answer be gathering every middle management, overpaid managing director/exec into a gigantic room somewhere and blasting it over the speakers? I think as they are often the people who can choose to fight or not on behalf of someone and really sway industries and decisions.

How do you manage to protect your fun side while singing about such serious topics? Does it ever become too much?

Twat Union: We think a lot about when and where we place the serious moments in our set and I do think our default mode is fun and silly. We protect it by just creating a really mad rehearsal and writing space where no idea is too insane or odd and we try things out and just laugh a lot. So I think we protect it by just encouraging it.

There are six of you. I would love to know what each of your roles are in the band, and whether having so many of you ever causes issues.

Twat Union: So we have Kate (lead singer), Alice (keys/vox), Lucie (lead guitar/vox), Beth (sax/vox), Tessa (bass) and Haz (drums). Being a big band is so fun because we are just a big group of pals and it makes the good times really great and supporting each other in difficult times much easier too!

I’d say the only tricky thing is finding a car big enough to fit us all in at once with our gear (still yet to succeed here) and again finding enough little spots for twats to lay all of our many heads! Touring is expensive and when there’s a lot of you, you take up a lot of space.

Having six twats to coordinate can be a little tricky in terms of finding time when we’re all free to rehearse and write together too, but we all work hard to make it work. Ultimately, having so many of us is a strength – everyone brings different skill sets, experiences, energy and ideas and we love all of the twats one and all!

You appeared at Glastonbury and many other festivals in 2025. What was that like? And if you had to pick any festival in the world to play that you have not already played, which one are you picking next?

Twat Union: Yes we did quite a few last year! We absolutely loved all of them and Glastonbury was particularly special because it was a VERY cool stage (Scissors in Park area) and it was Kate’s birthday at midnight an hour after we played, and so we had just done one of the coolest gigs ever and then boogied the night away after!

We’ve got a few festivals already on the bill for this year and I think if we could pick one we’ve not done yet, we’d love to play Green Man. A few of us have been and love it and think our particular mad theatrical brand would fit in!

I have heard that your live shows are somewhat crazy. First of all, what can people expect at a Twat Union show? And secondly, where can people catch you on tour?

Twat Union: So, first and foremost, expect a lot of props. Quite a few outfit changes. Some mad dancing and a lot of on-the-nose jokes. The more on the nose the better we think. And also of course some catchy tunes that will stay in your head forever, hopefully. We are playing Swansea, Hastings, Portsmouth, Brighton, Chelmsford, Norwich, Newport and Bristol on this tour! And hoping to get up North to see our Northern friends later in the year.

I personally find your music topics hilarious, uncomfortable and excellent, “Period Sex” for example, which I guess is sort of the point as it gets people thinking. But I want to know, is there anything you want to cover but will not as a song topic?

Twat Union: I think no topic is technically off bounds! We have a big book full of ideas that we’ve come up with but not written yet, and whilst it doesn’t feel like topics are off limits, as we write songs we sort of feel/test out the material to see if it chimes with us. If it does, we keep going, if it doesn’t, we park it for a bit to return to it later.

If there were Twat Union action figures, what accessories would come in the box?

Twat Union: Absolutely love this question. Well all of our instruments, firstly. Then definitely a witches hat, a tiny TINY pink drill and absolutely a vibrator. Hoping for both the vibrator and the drill to be fully operational too…Would be cute to have tampons too, I don’t think Barbie has ever gone there.

Delving back into your first EP, “Don’t Look It In The Eye”, I adore “Red Flag”. I want to know though, when dating someone, what is the biggest red flag they have ever demonstrated?

Twat Union: Haha. Well a lot of them are in the song! And I think we’d all have different answers to this one. There are a lot of very dark ones that didn’t make it into the song that I think actually are just downright illegal.

I do think one of the most alarming ones that’s in the lyrics, was being asked if one of us was open to signing an NDA for their impending political career…which just symbolised a whole lot of red flags to come…

I would put your music at a mix of rock and pop punk. I would like to know what about these genres made you want to produce your own music?

Twat Union: Our music has grown very organically from having an idea to start the band with the mad name and all having different tastes in music. We started at punk and have definitely landed quite naturally on the pop side of punk (we love ourselves a pop princess), and it has felt like a really natural progression of the six of us coming together with different ideas and ending up here!

What London based bands that we might not have heard of yet should we check out and why?

Twat Union: We have played with some amazing bands in London! Defo check out Comic Sans and Thwack! especially – both bands we’ve shared a line up with that we’ve loved. Thwack have some awesome props and theatrical stuff so we feel quite aligned with them on that specifically.

What would your reaction be if this interview were done in person and I walked in wearing “Tiny Shorts”?

Twat Union: We’d give you a standing ovation. We are always, ALWAYS pro tiny shorts, in any weather or occasion. (but also, look after yourself, it’s cold out there xx)

Twat Union – Tiny Shorts (All Rights Are Retained By Twat Union)
If I were to give you a completely free space to talk about feminism and all the issues that bother you, what would you say?

Twat Union: This feels like a pretty big question, and I think one where we’d all have something different to say. Everyone in the band has a different relationship to feminism and what it means to them and what issues are bothering them most.

I think we always try to make space for highlighting that most crises going on in the world will have a dimension of feminism and feminist issues. Creating safe spaces for women to exist and be free all over the world – from Palestine, to Ukraine, to your next door neighbour – is an enormous task and one that needs continuing and constant conversation.

Finally, let’s end the interview on a fun one. If the EP came with a warning label, what funny message would be on that label?

Twat Union: CAUTION: DO NOT SWALLOW
