From The Archives: 60s Vol 8 – The Doors – Strange Days

The Album Breakdown

Arriving just 2 months after their debut and self-titled album yet didn’t simply repeat the formula! Instead pushing more into the psychedelic world yet untrodden. It feels stranger (Ironic) darker and a lot more experimental. With Jim Morrisons vocals feeling poetic wrapped around keyboard and guitar lines.

Throw into the mix the organ and jazz like drumming and everything just feels less blues like but far more adventurous! It never hit the commercial height of their debut but it cemented the band in many peoples eyes.

Highlight Tracks

This song captures everything great about the band, its playful yet somehow alienating and isolating in equal measure. It might be short but its undeniably catchy and more importantly memorable!

The Doors – People Are Strange (All Rights Are Retained By The Doors)

The title track leans heavily into that new found psych vibe with swirling keyboards and distortion on the vocals. It tries and succeeds in creating a really unsettling atmosphere. Chaos is not always a bad thing, here it makes it fascinating!

The Doors – Strange Days (All Rights Are Retained By The Doors)

A nod back to the blues rock roots that the band came from. It feels raw compared to the other parts of the album, but there is a reason why this is loved by so many!

The Doors – Love Me Two Times (All Rights Are Retained By The Doors)

Jim could even say “Hello, I love you” from the world beyond to me. Brilliant musician.
