New Rock Roundup Vol 49

This is our brand new weekly feature (Normally) on a Monday! The New Rock Roundup will rank the latest releases spanning across the world of rock music. With entries from rock, metal, metalcore, punk, pop punk, alternative and indie!

There will be a brief explanation about why I (Fox) enjoy the song in question from each category before I rank them at the end in terms of my own preference. I would love to hear your own person ranking as well as why you agree with or disagree with my comments.

New Rock Roundup

Rock

One Last Night – Man I Need.

Sometimes rock can be stereotypical, this on the other hand hit me a bit different. With blast beats, a melodic voice and a structure that had me guessing on every twist and turn. This could hit the mainstream if they wanted, with pop like elements.

Metal

Sevendust – One.

One to make people feel old… This band have been around since 1994. I was 1 years old when they started, but boy do they continue to bang out amazing groove metal hits. Well crafted, expansive in the chorus and gritty when needed. This is a hit.

Sevendust – One (All Rights Are Retained By Sevendust)

Metalcore

Severals – Loneliness.

I listen to a lot of Metalcore, this band however might be the best I have heard at using silence. It creates an added depth that is often missed. With high pitched clean vocals, against this gritty scream that hits hard but most importantly is understandable. This is great!

Severals – Loneliness (All Rights Are Retained By Severals)

Punk

Nancy and the Jam Fancys – Higher Than Usual.

If you enjoy The Misfits then I think this vocal styling is going to be like a magnet to you. With a great name, and a sound to back it up, I will have to keep an eye on these Aussies! With their debut album coming out in 2025 I suspect I will keep bumping into these!

Nancy and the Jam Fancys – Higher Than Usual (All Rights Are Retained By Nancy and the Jam Fancys)

Pop Punk

Mattstagraham – Let’s All Quit.

Let’s be honest who doesn’t wish they could just quit their job without issues. The retired I guess… Anyways this band bring a real anti-workplace anthem that is fun, well crafted and pop-punk centric.

Mattstagraham – Let’s All Quit (All Rights Are Retained By Mattstagraham)

Alternative

Jam Merchants – QUEEN.

Did someone turn up with fuzz! There is two people in this band and honestly that feels like a lie even now that I am typing it. But honestly it is the truth! If you like Royal Blood then this is a band for you. Thick guitars, well crafted songs.

Jam Merchants – QUEEN (All Rights Are Retained By Jam Merchants)

Indie

Suncharmer – With Evil Eyes.

Based in the south east of the UK Suncharmer, have this amazing singer who reminds me so much of Alex Turner from Arctic Monkeys! The bassline is crisp and groovy, which is ironic as Crisp is the surname of the singer.

Suncharmer – With Evil Eyes (All Rights Are Retained By Suncharmer)

1st Place: Suncharmer

2nd Place: Jam Merchants

3rd Place: Sevendust
