Introduction
Today we review the second single from the upcoming album “Wild Rock Dove” by Ravi Shavi. That album comes out next week on the 12th of June so it made perfect sense to dive into Fresh Hell.
Review
At a short 1 minute and 35 seconds long, this track managed to pack an impressive amount into such a short window. The psych leaning guitars give the song an expansive feel, while for me the bassline steals the show. Easily my favourite part of the whole arrangement.
The drums hit hard with an almost crunch like impact that suits the energy of the track, although I’d likely bring them down in the mix slightly. It’s a minor point though as everything else seems well judged. The layered vocals are effective, with the contrast between singers added an interesting texture throughout. I also like how these vocals know when to step into the limelight and when to give space for the instrumentals to shine.
The addition of brass in the middle section was a surprise to say the least, but a welcome one! Used sparingly it adds something special and never feels overwhelming. In fact, it feels completely necessary!

More than anything, this sounds like a band having fun while still paying close attention to the details. The constant variations in the instrumentation keep things interesting and make you curious about what might come next. Honestly, if this song were three times as long, I’d still be enjoying every second of it, and it certainly leaves me eager to hear the full album.
