From The Archives: The Stooges – The Stooges

This is “From The Archives” a feature where we take a trip back to a previous decade and discuss an album! We will talk about highlight tracks that should not be missed. As well as reasons why we think the album was so influential and successful.

The Album Breakdown

This album took rock and stripped it back to its most primal instincts. Iggy Pop’s vocals capture boredom and aggression that only a early 20 something can have. Angst was turned into a genuine work of art.

The Ashton brothers do a great job to make an impressive rhythm and when combined with Asheton’s heavily distorted guitar creates this hypnotic effect. The 70s punk movement needs to thank this album for its structure, an absolute blueprint of a record.

Highlight Tracks

At this point the three-chord guitar riff which is heavily distorted and its accompanying piano creates the sound of pure lust. Tension is stripped away and because of that the primal undertone comes through and defines the punk era. I guess maybe even before it really began.

The Stooges – I Wanna Be Your Dog (All Rights Are Retained By The Stooges)

The album opener captures boredom perfectly, showcasing the times for young people and the aimlessness of youth culture. Pop is immense on this track!
