From The Archives: Riot – Rock City

This is “From The Archives” a feature where we take a trip back to a previous decade and discuss an album! We will talk about highlight tracks that should not be missed. As well as reasons why we think the album was so influential and successful.

The Album Breakdown

New York based band Riot blended Hard Rock with high levels of energy. A combination of the American and British metal styles of the time. On release this album originally had poor sales, until a radio DJ in Texas played it extensively. It turned into a classic.

Highlight Tracks

The infectious chorus on this track drives the song. With harmonies played together on 2 guitars it was the start of an effect that later became the bands signature. Power metal at it’s best. (Even before it was a thing).

Riot – Warrior (All Rights Are Retained By Riot)

The hard rock style of this song uses incredibly sharp hooks and a driving pace to great effect. It is a real showing off level performance from Speranza’s massive vocals.

Riot – Tokyo Rose (All Rights Are Retained By Riot)

Other Notable Albums From The Band

Fire Down Under

Thundersteel

Narita

“Love this trip back to the archives—’Warrior’ and those early twin guitar harmonies truly laid the groundwork for classic power metal!”
