Introduction
Ventures waste very little time making their presence known on new single Catastrophic Ultra Violence. The Manchester based metalcore band showcase aggression and intensity. But beneath it all there is something more just waiting to break through. Read the full review below.
Review
The pounding drums make an immediate impact on the listener, setting the tone with a pounding assault. I could have done with less cymbals though at times that did feel a bit overkill. I do think however that the drums combine really well with the guitar riff that takes no time at all to get stuck in your head. It’s hard to shake after a couple of listens which is always a great sign!
Then comes the real cavalry, the vocals are brutally raw, giving the track an unpolished intensity that works massively in its favour. I can’t stop hearing that high pitched note they have put throughout the track though that I find jarring. If I am honest I don’t think it sits comfortably within the track either.
Having previously reviewed Melt With Me, I found myself missing some of the melodic nature that made that track stand out to me. There is plenty of aggression here, but the song could have benefitted with a bit more variation. Particularly some clean vocals which the band have shown off previously on tracks like Solitude. The contrast I feel would have made the heavier moments hit even harder.
Still, the sheer emotional force of those screams is impossible to ignore. Overall this is a track you don’t listen to, you feel it. Raw, intense and unapologetic.
