This is our brand new weekly feature (Normally) on a Monday! The New Rock Roundup will rank the latest releases spanning across the world of rock music. With entries from rock, metal, metalcore, punk, pop punk, alternative and indie!

There will be a brief explanation about why I (Fox) enjoy the song in question from each category before I rank them at the end in terms of my own preference. I would love to hear your own person ranking as well as why you agree with or disagree with my comments.

Rock

Return To Dust – Sweet Escape.

It is no secret by now that I love these guys! They were the best band I saw at Download Festival 2026. I just adore the way they structure songs, that gritty, grungy edge to what is otherwise rock. I cannot wait to see where this band goes next. The vocals, and guitars on this track are immense.

Metal

Savage Hands – It’s Me.

The verses are all well and good but the choruses on this track are MEGA. It’s a metal song but fans of softer music styles are not going to mind this at all. With subtle electronic elements too it is verging on experimental in all the right ways.

Metalcore

Ice Nine Kills – Play Dead.

I think these guys might be the best band in this space for adding real melodic elements to what are really heavy songs. The screams are added at the right moments and add to the picture rather than just being noise too. I have never known a band be so great at crafting lyrics based on another material either. All their songs are based on horror films.

Punk

Mistakes Were Made – Counting Hours.

I love the downtuned guitar and bass on this song. Combined with the fast pace nature of punk this is like audible bliss. I do wonder though if you saw this band live would it be a little bit samey?

Pop Punk

Fluorescents – Colorado.

WOW this is one of the best pop-punk songs I have heard in ages. It’s held up almost entirely by the lyrics and vocals, but supported more than well enough by the instruments. This chorus is currently living rent free in my head.

Alternative

Delirium – Visible Seam.

This alt song is almost verging on prog in places! And in others shoegaze. It is a disorientating sound combination that I think some will really like. Others will hate it though, there isn’t going to be many in the middle ground.

Indie

Thesaurus Rex – Weak Days.

I haven’t worked out why yet but these guys remind me of Foster The People! I just love the bright and easy listening tone running through it. Even if the lyrics are not always matching in vibe! Also a special note to that India inspired section….
