This is “From The Archives” a feature where we take a trip back to a previous decade and discuss an album! We will talk about highlight tracks that should not be missed. As well as reasons why we think the album was so influential and successful.
The Album Breakdown
Blue Öyster Cult are easily one of the more enigmatic bands is classic rock. Their second effort from 1973 is the moment that they really began to maximise their sound. Following on from their self-titled debut which was all about psych/acid rock this album switched things up!
Split into two halves, the black side with high speed and the red ride which is more towards experimental. This album stripped away the flower-power of the past and delivered sharp riffs to go alongside Pearlmans trademark occult themed lyrics.
Highlight Tracks
This is actually a revamped version and renaming of another song! But that does not take away the blistering speed and quality. It has a huge bassline and dual guitars that are simply relentless. It has you in the deep end and thankfully you know how to swim!
This stands tall as a 70s hard rock anthem! It’s heavy, it has chugging riffs and vocal delivery that feels dangerous and on edge. This combination made it a live favourite.
This song was much more towards prog, weaving through intricate instrumentals and amazing guitar solos! If you like odd lyrics filled with cryptic puzzles then this is a song for you.
