Mlny Parsonz, the talented Bassist & Vocalist of the Atlanta-based rock band Royal Thunder, is an absolute force to be reckoned with on stage! Alongside her ex-husband guitarist Josh Weaver and Drummer Evan DiPrima, she creates a mesmerizing blend of hard rock infused with elements of grunge and progressive rock. Rolling Stone aptly compared the band to a Led Zeppelin fronted by Janis Joplin, which is truly a remarkable compliment. I also see shades of Kurt Cobains charisma in Mlny probably due to the raw energy she exudes.
The band dropped their album Crooked Doors in 2015, delving deep into the dramatic events surrounding Parsonz and Weaver’s marriage breakdown and departure from a religious cult. Critics were quick to draw parallels to Fleetwood Mac’s iconic album Rumours, praising the raw emotion and authenticity that shines through every lyric.
The group has reunited following a tumultuous past, and their latest album, Rebuilding The Mountain, released in 2023, has received glowing reviews. Knotfest hailed it as “their best work yet.” Parsonz’s vocal prowess has garnered immense praise over the years, particularly for her soulful and bluesy wailing tones. However, it is on her 2017 album “Wick” where she truly shines, showcasing her raspy vocals that, in my humble opinion, stand out as some of the most emotionally stirring in the rock genre. What sets her apart is her ability to lay bare her emotions without any pretence or concealment. When you listen to her songs, you can’t help but feel every ounce of her pain. It’s a raw, authentic, and undeniably powerful experience.
