How Has Your Taste In Rock Music Evolved Over Time?

It is not so easy to track my music “Education” as it were. I have such a wide base of interest across the rock and metal spectrum that pinning it down is hard to do.

Iron Maiden – The Trooper (All Rights Are Retained By Iron Maiden)

My earliest memories of rock music are likely in the back of my dad’s car when he would stick on Bon Jovi or Iron Maiden on, during pretty much every single trip. Both solid bands, and a foundation to go from. Essentially classic rock and good classic rock at that!

Hard-Fi – Living For The Weekend (All Rights Are Retained By Hard-Fi)

When I hit the age where I was getting into my own music it started with bands such as Green Day, Fall Out Boy and indie bands like Hard-Fi. So really my first interests were punk and emo! My friends however were mostly into pop music apart from one! This friend I will call P here , was big into Metallica, System Of A Down etc. Combined with Tony Hawks Pro Skater games on the playstation there was a real firm view on music being formed. A real insight into metal!

System Of A Down – Chop Suey! (All Rights Are Retained By System Of A Down)

I went with P to my first Download Festival and that was pretty much it! From there I learned about new bands, saw my favourite song ever “Ace Of Spades” by Motorhead. My eyes were well and truly opened.

Motorhead – Ace Of Spades (All Rights Are Retained By Motorhead)

Since then it has been a widening of genres were I can now listen to what I once considered heavy , now genres like Metalcore are honestly one of my favourites. How has your rock music taste evolved over time? Let me know in the comments!

I don’t think mine has changed as much as it has evolved. I still love 60s psychedelia, the New Wave of British Heavy Metal of the 70s, and much of the stuff that’s come afterwards. I think I just like more than I used to.

Mine has broadened, not changed. In high school, I was all metal, all the time. In college, I started listening to everything.

Same for me. It has broadened with access to more variety. That is especially true in the streaming world where access to everything ever recorded is easily available.

Everything I wanted to know about music I taught myself, Of course, it was much harder than it is now because there was no Internet, I had the radio playing to different stations all day until I went to sleep unless I watched some TV in between. What my ears picked up as likable I made sure I knew what the song and artist was, I can say I have a very large musical genre and my Favorites list on YouTube includes songs in both English and Latvian,

Mine actually has taken me back to the 60s & 70s more and now, I have a turn table and really old albums dating back to the 1800s from an estate sale. Love it!! I even grabbed the old CDs and been listening to so many varieties. Truly amazing how music can open up so many vibes to our souls.
