It is not so easy to track my music “Education” as it were. I have such a wide base of interest across the rock and metal spectrum that pinning it down is hard to do.
My earliest memories of rock music are likely in the back of my dad’s car when he would stick on Bon Jovi or Iron Maiden on, during pretty much every single trip. Both solid bands, and a foundation to go from. Essentially classic rock and good classic rock at that!
When I hit the age where I was getting into my own music it started with bands such as Green Day, Fall Out Boy and indie bands like Hard-Fi. So really my first interests were punk and emo! My friends however were mostly into pop music apart from one! This friend I will call P here , was big into Metallica, System Of A Down etc. Combined with Tony Hawks Pro Skater games on the playstation there was a real firm view on music being formed. A real insight into metal!
I went with P to my first Download Festival and that was pretty much it! From there I learned about new bands, saw my favourite song ever “Ace Of Spades” by Motorhead. My eyes were well and truly opened.
Since then it has been a widening of genres were I can now listen to what I once considered heavy , now genres like Metalcore are honestly one of my favourites. How has your rock music taste evolved over time? Let me know in the comments!
