New Rock Roundup Vol 24

This is our brand new weekly feature (Normally) on a Monday! The New Rock Roundup will rank the latest releases spanning across the world of rock music. With entries from rock, metal, metalcore, punk, pop punk, alternative and indie!

There will be a brief explanation about why I (Fox) enjoy the song in question from each category before I rank them at the end in terms of my own preference. I would love to hear your own person ranking as well as why you agree with or disagree with my comments.

New Rock Roundup

Rock

Blondshell – Berlin TV Tower.

For my rock tune of the week I am going with this softer number, which is a song about war, hope and is also beautiful.

Blondshell – Berlin TV Tower (All Rights Are Retained By Blondshell)

Metal

The Devil Wears Prada – When You’re Gone.

What I like about this song is how while the harsh vocals are there and killer, they never take over the song. With a great flow this shows the bands ability to craft and balance a song.

The Devil Wears Prada – When You’re Gone (All Rights Are Retained By The Devil Wears Prada)

Metalcore

Of Mice & Men – Flowers.

There is something I love, love, love about a metalcore song that is actually more melodic than harsh. Of Mice & Men are a band I have adored for a very long time, you might now too!

Of Mice & Men – Flowers (All Rights Are Retained By Of Mice & Men)

Punk

Buckled – This One’s For Us.

Fast, fun and punk. There is not really too much more to add to this other than it is a 2 minute long thrill ride!

Buckled – This One’s For Us (All Rights Are Retained By Buckled)

Pop Punk

Ben Quad – All Your Luck.

This in parts feels like an emo anthem, yet it is sung in a pop-punk style which makes it really addictive and intriguing! I also want to give a special nod to the drumming here!

Ben Quad – All Your Luck (All Rights Are Retained By Ben Quad)

Alternative

Home Front – Between The Waves.

The Cure! Ok so it Isn’t The Cure, but man does it have that vibe to it. Listen to it and tell me you don’t hear it.

Home Front – Between The Waves (All Rights Are Retained By Home Front)

Indie

The Neighbourhood – Hula Girl.

This song feels so airy and fresh! The lyrics are really inventive, and the guitar has this soft almost background style that I really like.

The Neighbourhood – Hula Girl (All Rights Are Retained By The Neighbourhood)

Fox’s Ranking

1st Place: Home Front

2nd Place: Blondshell

3rd Place: The Neighbourhood

4th Place: Of Mice & Men

5th Place: Ben Quad

6th Place: The Devil Wears Prada

7th Place: Buckled

Buckled & Homefront take the top 2 spots for me and Hula Girl gets an honorable mention.
