What a tough one! This is like apples versus oranges.

I love both bands, but I probably would prefer Genesis over Jane’s Addiction. They just seemed a little more prolific at this point. And this is coming from a guy who doesn’t even listen to any of the old Peter Gabriel Genesis stuff.

Is there a reason why you dont listen to the Peter Gabriel stuff?

To be honest, it’s something I’ve just never gotten around to. I’ve never really done a Genesis deep dive, and if I recall correctly, most of the stuff that makes radio buy them is from the Phil Collins era

Both good groups but surprisingly I have to go with Jane’s Addiction.

Oooh interesting! Why do you think that might be ?

I think it depends on which phase of Genesis we’re talking about. Peter Gabriel era wins hands down. Phil Collins era loses by a mile.

Not a fan of PC or just his time singing in Genesis?

I like Phil well enough, but his version of Genesis was too pop-oriented for me. I prefer the progressive version (although ABACAB is one of my favorite tunes and one of their last progressive songs).

Fair enough 🙂 I suspect I am one of the few that preferred the popier stuff…

I think someone above expressed a similar opinion to the one I’m about to give. Genesis, always, but Peter Gabriel era far outshone Phil Collins. Even so, I enjoy both. I must brag that I saw The Lamb in Baltimore when I was in high school. I was dumbfounded. What an amazing album and show.

The pitting of Genesis against Jane’s Addiction here feels like a deliberate provocation, throwing polished 80s pop-prog sheen up against the loose, narcotic sprawl of alternative. Invisible Touch is tight, hook-driven machine music; Jane Says drifts on that acoustic haze and Perry Farrell’s drawl, refusing to resolve neatly. I lean towards the latter for the way it lets air and imperfection breathe—evolution in rock often hides in those rough edges rather than in chart perfection. Still, the comments section will likely split along generational lines, as these things do. Interesting matchup.

Haha I like that you think it was deliberate 🤣 I have hundreds of artists in a big wheel and I spin the wheel and pick 2 out !

It is an interesting match up though.

I think I go more towards Genesis personally but I also truly appreciate Jane’s Addiction. Having only seen the latter live that makes it even closer for me
