There will be a brief explanation about why I (Fox) enjoy the song in question from each category before I rank them at the end in terms of my own preference. I would love to hear your own person ranking as well as why you agree with or disagree with my comments.

New Rock Roundup

Rock

The Pretty Reckless – When I Wake Up.

At this point Taylor has proven without a shadow of a doubt that she is more than just a who! Even if she did release a Christmas album this past year… The Pretty Reckless continue to pump out incredibly catchy tunes, with fun song structures and a change of pace here and there. I especially like how the vocals are different from one verse to the next here.

Metal

Hollywood Undead – 1×1.

It has been a long time since I listened to Hollywood Undead! In fact I have seen them live since I last actively listened to their tunes. That being said their hip-hop x metal tunes because quite the earworm after a while. This songs verses are hip-hop and the chorus in traditional sung fashion is addicitive!

Hollywood Undead – 1×1 (All Rights Are Retained By Hollywood Undead)

Metalcore

Lost In Separation – Can’t Forget.

This is a band I personally have never heard of before. But I was intrigued by the electronic style at the start of this song and the softer vocals. The pop-punk stylings was different too and made the eventual switch to metalcore style vocals towards the end even more impactful.

Lost In Separation – Can’t Forget (All Rights Are Retained By Lost In Separation)

Punk

White Reaper – Mold.

I went a bit more pop-punk with my punk song this week, what are you gonna do about it? White Reaper have this insanely great bass about them and the guitar segment completely won me over. I can’t wait to try more of their hits!

White Reaper – Mold (All Rights Are Retained By White Reaper)

Pop Punk

goo – FOMO.

Yeah so you could switch this and the song above round… Regardless the flow of this song is incredibly catchy as is that guitar riff that plays off with the vocals and drums. Goo are going to be huge!

goo – FOMO (All Rights Are Retained By goo)

Alternative

Brigette Calls Me Baby – I Can Take The Sun Out Of The Sky.

These guys really take you back musically to the 70s and 80s and I LOVE IT! Imagine a more upbeat Smiths and you have Brigette Calls Me Baby. Like how do they pull this off because it’s absolutely amazing.

Brigette Calls Me Baby – I Can Take The Sun Out Of The Sky (All Rights Are Retained By Brigette Calls Me Baby)

Indie

The Fray – Ice Cold Lakes.

This is a more upbeat number by The Fray who I saw last year and were absolutely brilliant! The chorus is going to get stuck in your head so please be prepared for that…

The Fray – Ice Cold Lakes (All Rights Are Retained By The Fray)

OMG. Agreed on the two punk singles, the metal, and that’s about it. Love the Fray tho… which is kind of weird, bc previously to Ghost, I lived 24/7 – 365 punk. 😛
