What Is The Best Song By The Killers

From the ashes of the weekly song poll rises “What Is The Best Song By”. A very similar segment where I want to know what your favourite song(s) by the selected artist is! You can let us know in the comments!

The best thing is that if you don’t know the artist then you can see both our recommendations as well as those by other people.

Fox’s Recommendations

While this is clearly the bands biggest song, it’s that way for a reason. With real crossover appeal, I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone who doesn’t know this song. About a partner cheating (Or the idea of it) the way the band turn melancholy into an anthem needs to be studied.

The Killers – Mr. Brightside (All Rights Are Retained By The Killers)

From the same album as the song above (check it out) this song is much more in your face. The lyrical gymnastics it takes to sing this song make it fun! The Killers really did know how to craft a song that got stuck in your head and this is a prime example of that.

The Killers – Somebody Told Me (All Rights Are Retained By The Killers)

Fox’s Wildcard

For my wildcard song this time I am picking a tune that will not fail to make you smile… Listen and let me know.

Ooh this is a tough one…. I think I’d have to choose Somebody Told Me.

“Somebody Told Me” is great! As you note, I love the “lyrical gymnastics”.

For me, it’s their collab with New Order “Crystal” and their cover of Ian Curtis’ “Shadowplay.” The New Order connection is how I got to know The Killers. And then add to those…all of the above. Great band!

Don’t have much of a dog in this fight, but I will say that Somebody Told Me has an amazing drum track. As for the vocal gymnastics, I have to say I’m not 100% sure what this (or Mr Brightside, come to that) is saying – it sounds obvious but the words don’t actually seem to me to make perfect sense. I’m not sure if that’s a good or a bad thing

Perhaps that is intentional ? 🙂 You assign the meaning you want to it

Oh, absolutely. I think with The Killers, though, so many people have ‘explained’ it that it’s kinda pushed out other interpretations. Still not excellent songs, though. It’s interesting, also, to think that Mr Brightside was famously a total flop when it was first released.

All your cuts are from Hot Fuss, I see. How do their other albums hold up, do you think?
