How Has Rock Influenced Other Genres Of Music?

Rock and Pop

Some of pop music’s biggest hits have leant on guitar hooks, stadium-esque choruses and a rebellious edge. Even on production some of the world biggest artists use rock techniques to make songs sound bigger.

Michael Jackson – Beat It (All Rights Are Retained By Michael Jackson)

Rock and Hip-Hop

Crossing paths countless times, with rap artists sampling riffs and collaborating with rock bands. Usually to great effect. That timeless mix of guitars and powerful beats has helped both genres.

Jay-Z & Linkin Park – Numb/Encore (All Rights Are Retained By Jay-Z & Linkin Park)

Rock and Country

Country embraced some of rocks louder guitars, driving rhythm. The end result has often been called modern country. It’s that blend that keeps country’s storytelling qualities while adding attitude.

Big & Rich – Save A Horse (Ride A Cowboy) (All Rights Are Retained By Big & Rich)

Rock and Electronic Music

Within electronic music where you have distorted guitars, live drums and song structures similar to that of rock songs it is impossible to not see the cross over. Sitting alongside synths and dance beats creates this high-energy fusion that works well in clubs and festivals!

An interesting question. I always think of how other genres have influenced rock, but rarely the other way around. I know it’s had a big influence on Jazz (jazz fusion, for example), and I think it’s had an influence on Folk and Blues, particularly with the electric guitar. Definitely something I need to look into.

Big & Rich, that song, Bees used to love playing it but she never really blasted it, I did one time, I’m sure the neighbours had something to say, but atm… idgaf. Also 🤘🤘🤘🤘 to Linkin Park. Guessed who this is yet? It’s your Canadian David Bowie-esque punk rock enthusiast
